Guide to Valerio Catullo Airport
Written by Joeri Van Overloop
Verona Villafranca Airport (VRN)
Verona Airport, also called Valerio Catullo Airport, holds a significant position in Italy’s air travel network. Located 10 km southwest of Verona, it has seen various expansions and renovations over the years to better serve passengers and enhance its infrastructure. Verona Airport opened in 1970.
The first scheduled flights began shortly after its opening, marking the start of its contribution to Italy's aviation industry. In 1990, the airport received its first major upgrade, expanding the terminal and runway to handle an increasing number of passengers. By the mid-2000s, Verona Airport had established itself as a regional hub, connecting northern Italy to numerous international destinations.
Its strategic location in the Veneto region makes it a preferred choice for travelers heading to tourist hotspots like Lake Garda and the historic city of Verona. In 2011, the terminal underwent a major renovation to modernize its facilities and accommodate more passengers comfortably. The runway was extended to support larger aircraft, facilitating more international flights. Efforts to upgrade transportation links, including better road access and improved parking facilities, have been a priority.
These expansions aim to enhance passenger experience and strengthen the airport’s standing as a key player in the region's air travel network with 24 airlines flying from Verona: Aer Lingus, Air Albania, Air Baltic, Air Cairo, Air Dolomiti, Air France, Albawings, British Airways, Bukovyna Airlines, easyJet, Eurowings, Finnair, Fly One, Icelandair, Jet2, Neos, Norwegian Air, Ryanair, SA Express, Star Air, Transavia, Volotea, and Wizz Air.
